Paula Deen is about to get even more competition from her arch rival: chef, author and TV personality Anthony Bourdain has been tapped to host a new weekend food and travel program on CNN, the network Executive Vice President and Managing Editor Mark Whitaker said Tuesday.

The still-untitled program will debut in early 2013. The CNN show will be shot on location and will examine cultures from around the world through their food and dining and travel rituals.
It will air on Sunday nights with repeats airing on Saturday nights.
“For more than a decade, Anthony Bourdain has been a trailblazer in educating Americans about different cuisines and cultures around the world, as well as an outspoken commentator on social trends ranging from the rise of celebrity chefs to the impact of fast food chains to the spread of vegetarianism and veganism. Examining the world through the prism of Tony’s unique expertise and passions continues CNN’s long-standing commitment to international reporting and to promoting global understanding.”
Bourdain has appeared on both the Travel Channel and Food Network, as well as the Bravo competition Top Chef.
Of his latest gig, Bourdain said:
“I’m really looking forward to coming over to CNN. I think the world is going to get a whole lot bigger for me. I hope that old fans and new ones will be excited about what’s coming down the road.”
Last year, Bourdain made headlines after he branded Paula Deen — The Queen of All-Fried Everything — “the worst, most dangerous person to America.” He’s look been an opponent of Deen’s signature home-style cooking — which usually includes lots and lots of butter.
