Cheryl Cole for American Idol

Have you heard? British pop star Cheryl Cole is reportedly being lined up to be a judge on the next season of American Idol — just a year after the beauty was axed from the judging panel of the US version of The X Factor.

In May 2011, Cole was sensationally fired from Factor America after just four rounds of auditions. But Idol producers are reportedly eager to have the singing star join Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez as a panelist on the longrunning talent show. A production snoop tells The New York Post’s Page Six Column:
“It will be interesting to see how Jennifer deals with another beautiful woman sitting alongside her.”
Of course, there’s also the chance that Cheryl, 28, could replace Lopez. Jennifer, a mom of twins, recently hinted that her current second season as an Idol judge could be her last:
“…I don’t know if I can go for a third year. I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down, which was nice the first year with the babies being three, but now they’re getting more mobile, they’re about to go into school…so I just don’t know.”
Cole — – who cut her celebrity teeth as a member of the UK singing troupe Girls Aloud — worked on the UK X Factor for three season. But she was dumped from the US X Factor by boss Simon Cowell, who claimed she wasn’t comfortable in the role.
A fish out of UK waters, perhaps, Cheryl failed to impress American producers and she was axed after just three days on the job. She was officially replaced on the show by ex-Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger.
Cowell remains adamant he was only doing what was best for her by offering a chance to go back to the UK version of the talent contest:
“I’m sorry. I hope we’re still close friends. She’s still a star. The hardest thing to accept is that everyone has painted me as a monster because I embarrassed her. But the truth was I was protecting her. I just want people to be in the best place at the right time…It wasn’t that she was terrible – she was good. I just thought she’d be happier in the UK. We noticed she was quieter than normal. The feeling was that she was slightly out of her comfort zone in America.”
Think Cheryl is a good match for Idol?
