Billy Ray Cyrus Hopes Miley-Liam Engagement

In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth has proposed to Hannah Montana girlfriend Miley Cyrus, with the pair tweeting news of their engagement on Wednesday.

The father of the bride, “Achy Breaky Heart” hit-maker Billy Ray Cyrus, has given his blessing to the upcoming nups but hopes the youngsters won’t rush down the aisle too soon.
Liam, 22, asked Billy Ray and his wife Tish for permission to pop the question to Miley, 19. On May 31, the dashing Australian sealed the deal with a 3.5 carat diamond ring which he custom-designed with celebrity jeweler Neil Lane.

The ring, which is estimated to be valued at $100,000, is handcrafted in 18-carat gold and garnished with diamond floral motifs. Lane dished the deets on the glacier to People magazine, saying:

“[The central stone] was hand-cut around 1880 or 1890 and it’s unique and in its original form. At the time no two diamonds were alike, as they were all hand-cut, so it’s fascinating to look at because it hasn’t been re-cut to look contemporary over the years. I find that really romantic.”

After working “back and forth” on the design, Liam proposed the second the ring was ready because it was “everything he was looking for.” Sorta like Miley herself.

Billy Ray loves Liam “like a son”, but he isn’t thrilled bout his daughter getting hitched at such a young age, a source close to the famous family divulged to Radar Online.

“They knew it was coming. Liam lived with Miley and her parents when they began dating in 2009…However, Billy Ray is concerned about how young they are and he hopes that they aren’t in a rush to get married. Billy Ray hopes the engagement will be very long, but he isn’t opposed to the marriage at all. Billy Ray got divorced from his first wife Cindy though and he just doesn’t want Miley to go through a similar heartbreak.”

The snoop added:

“Liam is part of the Cyrus family and he is very close with Miley’s mom, Tish. It’s a very special time for the family and it’s certainly not easy for Billy Ray to realize that his oldest daughter is getting married. In Billy Ray’s eyes she will always be his little girl.”

Shh! Don’t tell Miley. She’s still in celebration mood. The former teen idol took to Twitter to thank well-wishers from her 5.8 million followers:

“I’m so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam…”
