Madhuri Dixit says that as an artiste she is game for on-screen intimacy provided it is integral to the plot, and cites the example of Vidya Balan's aesthetically filmed intimate scenes in Ishqiya.
"I don't think marriage or motherhood has anything to do with an actor's work. My kids (Arin and Rayan) and husband (Dr Sriram Nene) know that I'm an artiste. I can't shy away from anything that a script demands, even if it's physical intimacy," Madhuri tells the HT .
Madhuri, 45, begins filming for Abhishek Chaubey's Ishqiya (2010) sequel in September. The film additionally features Arshad Warsi, Naseeruddin Shah and Kangana Ranaut.
The sequel is set in Lucknow and has Madhuri playing a Nawabi Begum and Kangana her confidant and friend. Dance and songs will be the highlight of their roles.
Madhuri and Kangana will be the love interests of Naseeruddin and Arshad respectively.
Vidya Balan featured in a lip lock and other sensual scenes with Arshad Warsi in Ishqiya so Madhuri is often asked if she will be comfortable getting into that space.
Madhuri was first seen in an intimate scene back in 1988 with Vinod Khanna in Dayavan. She had a kissing scene with Aamir Khan in Dil (1990).
Dedh Ishqiya is Madhuri's first film since she relocated back in India in October 2011.
