This was one of the earliest movies from the late 70s/early 80s “cannibal boom,” and although it’s not quite as violent as some of the later films, it’s easy to see where the latter got their inspiration from. Especially disturbing is the climax, where the “hero” rips out one cannibal’s liver and eats it in front of the rest of the tribe to intimidate them into not following him. Charming.
