The recently released trailer for Baz Luhrmann's 3D film The Great Gatsby, set in the historic 1920's, has given a sneak peek into the delightful wardrobes and costumes to which viewers will be treated this Christmas.
The film is the Hollywood debut for Amitabh Bachchan as Meyer Wolfsheim. Bachchan admits it's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance for which he has not received any payment: It is a friendly gesture to Australian filmmaker, Baz Luhrmann.
The Great Gatsby's lead stars include Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, and Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson.
We will talk first about Big B's makeover. Though we got to see Bachchan only from the chest up, his impressive hat, stylish extended moustache, and generous sideburns give us enough idea of what to expect from his first ever period film set in the 20's. He plays an underworld criminal Jew in the film.
The film's trailer sets the tone flawlessly with picture perfect costumes seen right in the opening frame where a group of revelers are driving through a NYC bridge in a convertible.
Carey Mulligan stuns in flapper dresses, hats, headpieces, and hair barrettes true to the Jazz era. The 2.27m long trailer shows plenty of party scenes where men wear dapper clothing, and high-society women are dressed to the nines.
Leonardo and Tobey will steal your hearts in their fashionable suits and slick hairstyles. You almost get to see the entire wardrobe of Leonardo in a scene where he flings a large collection of his pastel-colored dress shirts from the balcony. In the trailer itself he is seen in six different suits.
The best part - we will get to see all the glamor in 3D.
